Dr. Steven Tarver graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 and then completed a one-year rotating internship in Sacramento. Apparently, he liked emergency medicine enough to stick around, because after finishing his internship, he was hired as a full-time emergency veterinarian. For more than 20 years, Dr. Tarver worked at a busy veterinary emergency and referral hospital in Sacramento, caring for dogs and cats through everything from upset stomachs and broken bones to the occasional mystery illness that keeps veterinarians humble. In April 2025, he joined Solano Pet Emergency Clinic (SPEC), where he now provides emergency and urgent care services for dogs and cats. Dr. Tarver enjoys the fast-paced, unpredictable nature of emergency medicine and takes pride in helping pets and their families through stressful situations. While most people try to avoid emergencies, he's built an entire career around them. When he’s not at the clinic, Dr. Tarver enjoys spending time with his partner, Bailey, and their four cats, who generously allow him to live in their home and pay the mortgage.
